Tata Pixel: A Cool City Car For Europe - Specifications And Features
Tata motors recently introduced a new city car concept named Pixel for Europe in the Tata Nano platform. Tata motors unveiled the new Tata Pixel concept at the Geneva Auto Show held in March 2011.
The new Tata pixel has got many features making it a perfect city car. The main among them are:
- "Zero turn" drive which maximizes maneuverability when parking
- Most package efficient 4-seater in the world
- CO2 emissions of just 89 gm/km and combined cycle fuel economy of 3.4 litres/100km
- Innovative 'scissor' door system allows entry and exit in the tightest of spaces
The Tata Pixel, with an innovative diamond-shaped door system and 'Zero Turn' feature is the latest city car concept for Europe from Tata Motors. The Pixel, built on Nano's platform is the most package efficient four-seater in the world with just over 3 metres in length. Even with the short length, it can comfortably accommodate four adults, unlike a typical city car which is either 2-seater or can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children only.
The Zero Turn toroidal traction-drive Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) in Tata Pixel provides it the ability to maneuver and park in the tightest of spaces. This highly efficient, cost-effective system assists rotation of the outer rear wheel forwards and the inner rear wheel backwards during low-speed manoeuvres, while the front wheels turn at acute angles. The resulting turning circle radius is just 2.6 metres. The glass area on the scissor doors provides excellent visibility even in the most extreme turning maneuver.
The "Scissor" doors of Pixel which rotate upwards from the front allow all four passengers to enter or exit it effortlessly, even in the tightest of spaces.
A forward sweeping roof-line, with minimal front and rear overhangs, highlights the youthful styling, while the window graphic features an interchangeable island that can be used to change the exterior appearance whenever desired.
Another significant feature of Tata Pixel is "My Tata Connect". It is the first integrated Human-Machine Interface (HMI) which enables seamless integration of the user's smartphone or tablet with the vehicle's infotainment system and also allows controlling key functions of the car. This interface with all-in-one touch screen display, allows the user to listen to his favorite songs, internet news and sport or stock updates. In addition, when docked in the instrument panel, it also allows temperature, ventilation and air-conditioning settings to be adjusted through its touch screen, as well as displaying information on the car's performance.
Tata Pixel is powered by a 1.2 litre 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, positioned at the rear of it. The engine has a low friction design, featuring variable coolant and oil pump and rapid warm-up technologies. With optimized aerodynamic drag, low rolling-resistance tyres, stop-start technology, and intelligent battery charging, the Tata Pixel returns European combined cycle (NEDC) fuel economy of 3.4 l/100km and CO2 emissions of just 89g/km.

The Most Expensive Cars to Insure
The Most Expensive Cars to Insure
Just because a car is cheap doesn't mean the insurance will be. High-cost cars aren't always the most expensive to insure either. If you are concerned about high insurance rates, you probably shouldn't go out a buy a new $33,000 Honda S2000 convertible. And that little inexpensive Volkswagen GTI, listed at $22,000, will cost you as much in insurance as its bigger cousin, the Passat, which costs twice as much.
Looking for cheaper insurance rates? The 2004 Chevrolet Aveo and the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado are among the cheapest 2004 models to insure.
The main factor in the cost of insurance for certain vehicles is not in the price, but its claims history. For example, certain cars are proven to be stolen more often. Some have high repair costs or are in more accidents than other cars. There are many factors, not just the cost of the car, that affect the premiums.
Insurance premiums are based on several factors, including:
The sticker price: a car that costs more to buy, costs more to replace.
Repair costs: Repair costs are skyrocketing at nearly double the overall rate of inflation. There are so many technological advance included in cars that they are more expensive to repair.
Theft and fraud patterns: Cars that are frequently stolen are more expensive to insure. Thieves have their favorites based on market demands and interchangeability of parts. The Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry are the most frequently stolen cars. If you live in an area where there are high auto theft rates, you could pay more in premiums. Insurance fraud is also on the rise and will result in higher insurance costs, especially if you live in New York, Massachusetts or Florida.
Model year, weight and vehicle type: The more power you have the higher premiums you will pay. Sports cars, high-performance vehicles and luxury cars have the highest losses for vehicle damage and small, light vehicles have the highest death rates. Passenger vans and station wagons have the lowest losses for vehicle damage. SUV's and trucks will generally sustain less damage in a collision, but will cause more damage and higher liability claims.
Driver demographics: Your age, where you live, your gender, driving record and credit history will affect your premiums. If you have a bad driving record, you will pay a lot in insurance premiums. If you have a good clean driving record, you'll pay less for insurance.
Technological progress: New gadgets and doodads in cars will make your premiums higher. This is because the cost of repairs is more expensive.
